Award Winning Chocolate Chunk Brownies

Brownies 4In the past I have tried to share only recipes that are on the healthier side…this is not one of those!  I feel compelled to share it with you though, because they REALLY are award winning brownies (not to mention easy and delicious).

Brownies 5In 2009 when Little Chef was 6 years old I asked her if she wanted to make some cookies and enter them into the fair.  She said  “no, I want to make brownies”.  So we found a brownie recipe that looked easy enough for a six year old and she went to work (with a little help from mom).  That year she brought home the huge purple “Top Of Show” ribbon.  Over the past four years that recipe has become our “go to” dessert.  If I need a dessert quickly this is the recipe I grab.  I usually grab my daughter too and have her make them! (lots of grabbing going on, sorry)  She never says no to making “her” brownies. 😉  So when her 4-H leader told us about “Food Activity Day”  the natural recipe of choice was………..you guessed it,  Chocolate Chunk Brownies.  On food activity day the kids pick a recipe and bring everything they need to prepare that recipe (or meal).   They set to work while the judge watches.  When they are done and the kitchen is clean they get to share their food with the judge and answer any questions they have.  My daughter was so excited about this day, and she had soooo much fun!  She was asking if she could do it again next year before they even handed out the awards. 😀  She received reserve champion in the Junior class for her brownies and brought home another purple ribbon and a blue ribbon!

Brownies 2They are soooo soft, gooey, and chocolaty rich, and they just melt in your mouth!

Recipe type: Dessert
Ingredients
  • 1 cup butter - melted
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 4 eggs - slightly beaten
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup simi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
  1. In a large bowl add the sugar, vanilla, and eggs to the warm melted butter and blend well. Add flour, cocoa and salt; mix well. Stir in the chocolate chips and pour into a greased 13X9-inch pan.
  2. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 40 minutes or until set. Let cool for at least 1 hour or until completely cooled before cutting into bars.

As you can see this is not a healthy recipe but definitely worth sharing. 🙂  Well….maybe I just wanted to brag about my Little Chef, that’s not so little any more.

  1. Yum! I haven’t yet tried a brownie recipe that I like better than the kind from a box. But I much prefer baking from scratch. I will have to try these – they look like winners, and they ARE winners. 🙂

  2. Your recipes!!!!!! They all look so amazing. Have you ever thought about publishing them as an ebook and offering it with your blog?

    Congrats to Little Chef! 🙂

  3. Ditto Karen 🙂 I feel the same way, box brownies are hard to beat….but think I will give Little Chef’s recipe a try…..my granddaughter Faith and I usually bake something when she spends the nite, so will give them a try 🙂

    Congrats to your Little Chef…..

      1. Thanks, well we didn’t make the brownies this week, but this morn. we made the muffin eggs & oven bacon….she was a good helper….she was impressed with the muffin eggs 🙂 we made bisquick biscuits, but we made them in a muffiin pan too, and they were gooey inside !! maybe because we put butter in the batter 🙂 but we just took out the inside dough and put the egg, bacon, cheese on the top & bottom of the biscuits and ate them that way…..we were a little disappointed, but will try them again, but baking biscuits in a sheet pan…I make bisquick bisquicks all the time…..and they always come out perfect…..need to recheck recipe on box….because something went wrong….love the bacon in the oven tho, but I did put bacon on rack on cookie sheet and I turned the bacon once and it came out perfect….but had to let it bake a couple of mins. longer….granddaughter wants to try Little Chefs’ brownies next :)…..

        1. Sounds like a yummy breakfast, even with gooey insides. 🙂 Your granddaughter will have such good memories of cooking with Grandma!

  4. Yes, please?! 🙂 Thanks so much for linking up to All My Bloggy Friends last week – I hope you’ll join us again tomorrow. I look forward to seeing what you’ve been working on this week! 🙂

  5. I just made these and I am sad to say I followed your recipe to the tee and they came out flat and not soft and fluffy. Like the picture. Was I suppose to add baking powder or soda? I have made brownies from scratch before…..so these just came out.weird.

    1. Oh man…sorry your brownies didn’t turn out as expected. We don’t add baking powder or soda. They are a pretty dense, kinda fudge like brownie, not fluffy. I hope they at least tasted good!

  6. Just wanted to let you know your recipe has become my family’s favorite brownie recipe. We have been making them since you first posted the recipe. Last night the family was begging for something sweet so I made the brownies and swirled in some peanut butter at the end just to try something different. OH MY….They were yummy! Just wanted to let you know. Thanks for your recipes!

    1. Hi Krista, So glad your family is enjoying these too! I just told Little Chef about the peanut butter…I think I know what she will be making tomorrow. 🙂 Thanks, Grace

  7. We are baking your delicious brownies for the second weekend in a row. We took them last weekend to a Memorial Day cookout and they never made it to dessert. One of the guests decided to “sneak” an early bite before we ate and then couldn’t help but rave how delicious they were. Needless to say, they got passed around and were gobbled up within just a couple minutes. They have a fantastically delicious homemade taste. The flavor of the butter comes through along with the chocolate. We are adding some walnuts to one half of the pan this time around to satisfy my husband’s love of walnuts in his brownies. The rest of us, we’re anxiously awaiting them just the way you’ve designed them. Thanks for sharing!!

  8. I tried this recipe the other day. The brownies were amazing! Just the brownie recipe I was looking for! Thanks for sharing.
